w/e...tryin' to play along, and you ruin it....

just sayin, when i was new on this site, the mods destroyed me for double posting. got all over me. so "no double-posting" has been drilled into my skull.

Yes I am very much aware of the ability to edit. I usually end up editting every post I put up two or three times (just edited this one). This isn't the first forum I've ever been a part of, you know. And where exactly do I have equally long double-posts? I see a few teensi weensie ones following some monsters.

Please don't get me started on the subject of impossiblities. I really would have to create a whole other thread for that lol cause this is not the place for it.

This is the place for: The world could end when that big black whole in the middle of the universe sucks it in with all the rest of the stars, and galaxies and anything else.

you just proved my point. if the post after the giant one is teeny-weeny, then why can't you just add it on to the end of the giant one?why does it have to be its own separate post?

well I suppose because for one I was reacting to a post that wasn't there when I started typing the first one and it had a slightly different topic focus, and I didn't want to get anyone any further confused because the general topic at hand was.....delicate, and not so easy to follow.

But I do get what you're saying, so I'll try not to be so....numerical with my posting. ^^

oh, and by the way it is impossible for someone to create anything that is sent over a network to mess up routers because of the way the data is incapsulated and sent over the network. It all has to do with the TCP/IP model, or the way I will explain it, through the OSI model. You start in the application layer, layer 7. This is where your virus would be together and doing something, from there it goes down to layer 6, presentation layer nothing really important here, then layer 5 session layer, again nothing important. This has all happened inside of a computer, and will do so until layer 1.

layer 4 is where your idea of having a virus destroy the internet falls apart. the data is copped up and segmented and a header is put on explaining how this information is put back together, and error correcting information if needed.

layer 3, network layer, destination and host ip addresses, along with some other stuff, are aded to yet another header

layer 2 datalink layer, yet another header is put on, this time dealing with mac addresses and some other stuff.

layer 1 physical layer, finally the PDU's are put onto a physical medium and they traverse to the next router.

the router will open up to layer 3 and that is it, and it will say, OH i need to send to this IP address okay this next router knows where it is, and sends the data. so it goes back and puts on a new layer 2 and sends it on its way, this happens until it reaches its destination when only then is the data put back together to make a virus.

if you can follow that, sorry for my crappy explination skills, then you would understand that to break the "internet" is 100% impossible.

sure, you can break into a router and shut it down but you have to do that one at a time and it of course only affects a tiny amount of the total users. So the only way to break the internet is by losing power the world over, which the power bein out would affect people to a much greater extent than there being no internet. and even then we could easily still communicate with other nations, Satellies would continue to function and some satellite phones are batter powered, not to mention we still have solar pannels.

so just face it, your theory is completely shot to hell. and if you say, well what if they gfind a way to change data in that layer 3... the router would simply drop the packet

I agree Sayuri! I just skimmed through it..

So ok the world wouldn't' end & it isn't impossible tot crash the web. To crash the web you would have to go physically destroy every data center in the world. I mean the world wide web is only known by that title because it connects to the world. But there has been times where major bandwidth carriers had massive mess ups that would stop certain access.

Regardless the only way to do it would be like by creating a war and bombing all the network carries kinda hard to accomplish...
